What’s On The Table: Traveling the World & Feeding the Flock

Posted: June 24, 2015 | Author: Fr. Leo

Summer time is here! We hope you were able to celebrate Father's Day with the ones you love, and that life has been more fun with the kids out of school (albeit more crazy). With vacations, hot weather, and good BBQ, it's no wonder so many people love the Summer. Fr. Leo himself is currently out traveling Italy, leading a pilgrimage with Gus Lloyd, Host of "Seize the Day" on The Catholic Channel on Sirius XM, and his wife, Michelle, which makes Fr. Leo as busy as ever. So for the summer, while we wish you the best, and will continue to offer Fr. Leo's insights on food, family, and faith, we wanted to show you what we have on the table looking ahead!

A Church Fr. Leo visited in Florence recently was full of statues and devotionals.

1. Pilgrimages to Italy and Spain

Fr. Leo's schedule, usually packed with events every weekend, has shifted over to a different kind of event: Culinary pilgrimages across Italy and Spain! As mentioned, he is out in Italy (currently in Turin to see the Shroud of Turin. Details are HERE) leading a special Culinary Pilgrimage with Gus Lloyd. They visited the EXPO 2015, the largest worldwide event ever organized on the theme of food, and still have the birthplace of St. John Bosco in Modena, vineyards in Tuscany, and Rome, where they end with a Papal audience. What a trip to go on!

But before you are discouraged, there is another trip that Fr. Leo is leading this summer, heading to Spain with Catholic Answers Live host Patrick Coffin. The dates are August 23 - September 3, 2015. There are still a few seats still available, so register as soon as possible before July 15, 2015. The "Tastes of Spain" trip promises to not only enrich ones faith but also the appreciation for the food, history and culture in Spain, traversing the country's many cities, vineyards, and pilgrimage sites, such as Avila, where they will celebrate the 500th birthday of St. Teresa of Avila. Get the full details by checking out the registration form, or seeing a day-by-day breakdown of the trip by checking the daily itinerary. Then call Select Travel International at 1-800-842-4842 today to register. The cost of the trip from Newark is $4,985 per person, so now's the chance to have a life-changing experience in one of the most proudly Catholic and historic countries in the world.

Registration closes in July, so reserve a space today!

And finally, Fr. Leo will be returning to Italy from May 12-21, 2016 for a Roman Holiday Retreat for Married Couples with Teresa Tomeo, Host of the radio show "Catholic Connection" on Ave Maria Radio and Sirius XM, along with her husband, Dcn. Dominick Pastore. You can check out the online brochure HERE amd register online by clicking HERE. We hope that you can join Fr. Leo for his travels, not only to see the world, but to experience the world as God intended it: in communion with Him.

2. Steubenville Conferences Main Campus #4 and Mid-America

Another staple in the summer is Fr. Leo's participation as a speaker and enteratiner at select Steubenville Conferences. For those who don't know, the Steubenville Conferences are one of the top conferences in the country for Catholic youth, attracting tens of thousands of young people to a weekend full of speakers, prayer, and adoration. The theme this year is "Limitless" and the trailer is below.

Fr. Leo will be at Steubenville Main Campus #4 from July 10 - July 12 in Steubenville, OH as the Keynote speaker, and then out in Sprinfield, MO for Steubenville Mid-America on July 17-19, 2015. If you have a chance to register or send your child, be sure to, as it has changed the lives of many and will help prepare leaders for the Catholic faith for our future.

3. TV Appearances and "Savoring Our Faith" in Baltimore in August

As mentioned in a previous post, Fr. Leo filmed a segment for The Cooking Channel for a new TV show coming out called "Holy & Hungry", which visits faith-filled chefs and eateries across the US. It was a truly cool experience and we will be sure to let you know when to check it out!

Additionally, Fr. Leo continues filming for the new season of the popular TV Show Savoring Our Faith on EWTN in which he travels across America to visit shrines, restaurants and kitchens to cook up some great food and discussions with notable cooks and individuals. He will be in his hometown of Baltimore from August 10-12, 2015, so keep your eyes posted on Fr. Leo's Facebook in case there is a need for locales, assistants, or potential guests to be featured!

4. Bigger Issues = Bigger Need

The Grace Before Meals movement is intended to not only offer recipes and reflections, but to inspire families to spend more time together and start making a difference in this culture and world, one meal at a time. With a lot of the biggest news stories pitting groups of people against each other, whether for religion, political affiliation, race, or domestic situation, we see a great need to encourage conversation and create opportunities for deeper discussions, while offering Fr. Leo's insight on family, faith and food for families as a resource to improve family life and the issues faced on a regular basis. So while there will always be a place for Fr. Leo's adventures, pray for us as we seek to go into the world and meet people more head-on. Let's make the difference that is needed to help families and individuals so that they may be welcome the banquet.

Keep up with Fr. Leo on Facebook and Twitter, and if you have Sirius XM, tune into Gus Lloyd's radio show to hear about their amazing adventures in Italy. Next week, Fr. Leo will look at "America's Changing Religious Landscape" following the PEW Report findings.

Let us pray

In honor of today's Feast Day of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, we remember his willingness to go into the world, proclaiming the Messiah and baptizing Christ despite his unworthiness. May we have the courage to go into the world and share the Good News with more people. And for those who don't follow, may we show them love and compassion so that they may know us by our love.

O God, Who hast honored this world by the birth of Saint John the Baptist, grant that Thy faithful people may rejoice in the way of eternal salvation, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen. (Source:EWTN.com)
