I had to share this story from one of our susbscribers.  Read it to the end and you’ll understand why!  It goes to show, a little “grace before meals” can tell you a lot about the person you are dating!  It think this segues perfectly into the upcoming Valentines Day stuff…

Dear friends and family~
I must share with you in regard to the phone call I just received from the guy with whom I had a dinner date 2 1/2 weeks ago (he had shown up to my belated Epiphany Party after his mother forwarded the invitation I sent to her–then called me a couple days later and asked me out.)  It was a nice evening–fun even, no major revelations, but a fun time of chit chat. I had not heard from him since but his aunt died 2 days after our date (on MLK day.)  When I heard, I had a mutual friend drop off a couple of cards last week for he and his mom.  So, tonight he called.  He said he wondered if I had wondered why I had not heard from him but he figured I would get the word about his aunt.
He then stated he had something he needed to tell me–that there were some things about me that remind him of his mother and he has been trying to work through it!!!  AAAAAGH!  I busted out laughing!  (Truly I did!  My goodness we had one date!)  I was very curious to hear what he thought was similar since I can think of nothing his mom and I have in common except the most important thing–we both love the Lord.  This was the main thing that sparked his concern: that I silently said grace before I ate!
(Yes, when he failed to man up and say grace for both of us, I said it silently while he dug in)
So, he said he had been really trying to work through this feeling that he had a date with his mother–I busted again!  Despite trying to just let him get it all out, I accidentally snorted from trying so hard not to laugh and said, ” I am so sorry–I am dying over here!!!”  I asked him if he thought he would need counseling for this and if so it could really lead him on a whole new journey–he said he was glad I could find humor in it…ohh my it goes on, but that’s about enough…poor soul.
Whatever happened to “Grace Before Meals?!”
God Bless,

Ingredients :

1 pound ground beef
½ pound ground pork
¼ cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
1 egg
½ cup minced onions
2-3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
2-4 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup flour

Check out little Joe saying # 1

Instructions:
In a large non-stick skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil.  Add onions and sauté until translucent.  Once onions are slightly brown, remove from heat and add to ground beef and pork.  Mix together, add bread crumbs, eggs, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and soy sauce.  Once all ingredients are fully incorporated, use your hands to roll 1 ½ inch meat balls.  Dredge in flour, shaking off excess.  In the same skillet, heat the rest of the olive oil over medium heat.  Cook the meatballs (without crowding the pan) until all sides are a deep golden brown.  Remove and let rest before serving with your favorite tomato sauce, which for some of the DeFusco family, happened to be MY tomato vodka sauce.  You can get that recipe from my book.

First: Congratulations to the Steelers!  What an incredible and exciting game. There were also a few good commercials in there too.

I participated in my own way by having a very “super bowl” of vegetable minestrone with a wedge of grilled mozzarella cheese sandwich.

Most of the Super Bowl weekend was spent with a group of Church Leaders – a few Cardinals, Bishops, and lay leaders in the Media and the evangelization movement.  It was sponsored by NEA – New Evangelization in the Americas.  I was invited as a presenter for Grace Before Meals.  I think the people who heard me speak “ate it up” and really enjoyed the message and the video clips.

I also had the chance to meet Eduardo, the star from the movie Bella.  Nice guy, great Catholic, and talented actor!  He wants to write a cook book too.  Perhaps one day I’ll have a chance to sample his family’s recipes.

He’s also going to play the role of St. Peter in an upcoming movie called “Kingdom Come.”  It’s going to be a blockbuster, epoch, and masterpiece complete with incredible actors and big named Hollywood producers, designers, and directors.  NEA participants viewed a few clips of what this movie will look like.  It will be BIG!  So, pray for them and all of their efforts.

Lots was said at the conference. Let’s now hope that people just don’t talk about evangelization.  I pray that the “words” will become “flesh” so that everyone hears the Good News!
