As you already know. I WON! or Rather, Team GBM Won. Special thanks to all who helped make a wonderful event into a spiritually uplifting event! Thanks to Mom, Dad, Brother, Sisters, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins and all other Filipino people who are somehow related to me! Thanks to Tim Watkins, his wonderful family, and the Renegade Productions Company; Maroon PR; Mount St. Mary’s Seminary; the Archdiocese of Baltimore; Comcast; The Little Italy Restaurant Association, and especially Da Mimmo’s Restaurant, Vacarro’s, Cesar’s Den, Chiparreli’s, Aldo’s and La Tavola – to name a few! To the supportive friends who came out and braved the drizzle. By the way, anyone notice how the rain stopped during the show? God is good! And, Mr. John, the 99 year old man who allowed Comcast to do the live feed from the Food Network to air on the big screen. 09.09.09 @ 9:00pm was a night to remember, especially in prayer. And, during prayer, God reminded me of the humility of this mission: to feed people body, mind and soul doesn’t take a celebrity, but someone willing to “celebrate” the blessings on the table and around the table. REMEMBER – please send the Food Newtork a little note just to tell them what you thought of the show. Peace! Fr. Leo

FYI: More pics and stories to come. But for now, I’m off to Fresno, CA and Iowa for conference – all in one weekend!

  • Hi Fr. Leo

Watched you on tv last night and thought you were wonderful! Perhaps you will be the next Food Network Star…in between all the other things you do.

    God Bless

  • Congratulations on your win! It was a wonderful show to watch with the entire family. We especially loved your reaction when Bobby appeared.

Keep up the wonderful work. (And if you ever want to visit the “zoo” and help with dinner you are more than welcome!)

  • Dear Father Leo,
Since I live in Ohio,I only know of you through this website. But watching you last night, I felt like I was sharing the event with family, which is quite a testimony to you and your companions. It was wonderful to see a humble, fun-loving, talented, 21st century Catholic priest on popular television. Thank you for your service to the Church, and may God bless you!
    Sincerely, Bonnie Slinger

  • We loved the Throwdown, Father Leo! The Food Network and Bobby Flay are favorites of ours. It was so refreshing to see our Catholic faith portrayed in a good light by the mainstream media for a change. Bravo, Father Leo and Food Network.

  • After listening to the talk you gave to members of Couples for Christ Foundation for Family and Life at the McCarrick Center last Saturday, 9/5/09, we knew you would be the winner in the Throwdown!

We pray for the continued success of your mission to bring families together and saying grace before meals. Congratulations and may God be with you always!

  • Congratulations Father Leo! I’ve been waiting for the show since you announced it, and it did not disappoint. My 9 year old daughter loved your break dancing, and my 14 year old son loved your martial arts moves. And I especially love for my son to see how much fun it can be to be a priest.

The Lord bless you and keep you in this wonderful ministry.

  • Dear Fr. Leo,
I read about you in Fr. Z’s WDTPRS blog. Congratulations! I also saw your interview in YouTube and am very impressed.

So you also teach a rhetoric class to seminarians at Emmitsburgh? How wonderful. We’re looking forward to great homilies from your students when they become priests. Think Fr. Corapi!

Perhaps you can send over some leftover fajitas to Vallejo, California, where it’s teeming with Pinoys? Just kidding. Meanwhile, we have your name down on the list of priests we pray for on this Year for Priests.

    More power to you!
    Pax et bonum.

  • FATHER! “…God reminded me of the humility of this mission: to feed people body, mind and soul doesn’t take a celebrity, but someone willing to ‘celebrate’ the blessings on the table and around the table.”

Remembering your humility at (my) home when you opted to sit on the bottom of, forgive us dear Lord, on the bottom of a trash can (which i’m not remembering now but) hoping it was soft plastic. More comment to follow as our dear Lord refreshes my short term memory loss through the prayer warriors who were visiting at my home that day. I will never forget your joy and loving humility. Praise be Jesus now and forever!

  • How could i have missed this?!!! I hope they show this again. I wanted my son to see you so that he can see that priests can also have some fun. He’s 8 yrs old and wants to be a priest someday (God willing!)

Thank you very much for your service. Hope you can visit us here in Dallas, TX someday. God bless you!!!

  • As Catholics, we are so conditioned to the same ‘Grace Before Meals’ we all know by heart & it really is a wonderful prayer.

“Bless us ‘O Lord, and these thy gifts which we are about to receive, from thy bounty, through Christ, Our Lord. Amen”

Our young priest loved to cook too and we always had cause to celebrate with another potluck! I remember a time he started us off with a smile and few words. “Good food, good God, let’s eat!”

  • Way to go Fr. Leo!

I’m an MSM Seminary graduate and a wannabe cook. I didn’t see the show (not on my cable) but congrats to you and Bobby Flay and Food Network for putting on such a celebration. I loved reading everything I could about it and hope to see a rebroadcast on the I-Net.

Take good care of our Atlanta guys.
