An Advent Prayer and Christmas Blessing

by Fr. Leo Patalinghug, 2011

From my family to yours.

(From my family to yours.)

The Lord’s coming among us

Increases joy in the hearts of God’s family.

A chance to increase our trust –

An opportunity to share the life of the Trinity.

The Birth of this Holy Child

A gift beyond all telling –

In a stable, He lays meek and mild,

In our hearts, He seeks love and indwelling.

The songs of the angels sing,

“Hosanna and Gloria in the darkest of nights!”

For the light of God this Child shall bring,

Comfort, strength and divine insight.

He shall show the ways of God,

With loving encouragement along the way –

In faith and hope we step towards love

And seek the glory of endless days.

May hearts burn for love of Him,

As we celebrate this season of giving.

May His peace, your soul shall sense within,

Be the grace that fills your days with blessed and joyful living.

  • Fr. Leo, thank you for your prayers, blessings and generously sharing your recipes, stories, anecdotes and life’s lessons in all your posts. It was a thrill to receive your cookbook as a gift, and even better gift to have the chance to share my restaurant review in your blog. Merry Christmas & Blessings for the New Year!

  • This year I had the chance to be Mrs. Claus. I received a small booklet early in Advent about how St. Francis of Assisi created a Nativity for the people to remember Jesus and the holy night.
I visited our parish preschool, dressed as Mrs. Claus and read the story to the children, and reminded them that Jesus is the Reason for the Season as well. The kids loved it and learned about what the nativity was.
They were then given a small candy cane as well. J is for Jesus!

  • Merry Christmas Father. We have truly enjoyed the the beauty and expectant joy of this beautiful Advent season. We are asking our most gracious God for a job for my husband this season as he has been laid off work for two months. We know and trust that God will provide for us, but we would appreciate any prayers. Thank you.

  • Praying before dinner with our family this Advent that God will make room in our hearts for Jesus, staying open to whatever He has planned for us, we find we are blessed to be expecting our third little bundle of joy! (Who already has a heartbeat and brain waves 3 weeks after conception)

  • You have given us a beautiful prayer, as Martha just wrote, and I wanted to thank God for you, and for this ministry.

My gift for Jesus this Christmas is my commitment to listen more carefully to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and to follow them “in haste” as our Lady did, when she traveled to the hill country of Judea, to share God’s gift to her with her cousin Elizabeth, and with the world. I want to be clay in the hands of God.
