Fr. Leo Reviews “Hacksaw Ridge”

Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow! Whether you are celebrating with your many family members and friends, or cooking for two (which you can refer to my latest episode for Cooking for One for HERE), may it be a blessed meal that brings us closer to one another and to God.

Since I provided my recipes for Thanksgiving last week, I wanted to share a review of the new Mel Gibson film,”Hacksaw Ridge” starring Andrew Garfield in an amazing performance. But there is so much more to the film than great performances, as it offers a unique look at war and our ability to live out as Christ calls us to even in impossible circumstances. What is most mind-blowing is that this is based on a TRUE story – this man, Pfc. Desmond T. Doss, actually won a Congressional Medal of Honor despite refusing to bear arms in WWII. You have to see it to believe it. My review is as follows:

Let Us Pray:

God our Father, as we celebrate Thanksgiving, we thank You for Your infinite love, mercy, wisdom, providence and blessings. Even in times of loss, sadness, violence, and wrongdoing, we recognize Your great love for us. May we share that with one another during Thanksgiving dinner and during every day of our lives, and please receive the love we have for You. We pray for the many who will go without during the times we feast, and may we have it in our hearts and souls to go out of our way for the less fortunate and for those who find it hard to be thankful for anything. Your Son Jesus Christ ate with sinners and saints, and may we hope to do the same so that we may shine His light upon the world. We ask this in His name. Amen.
