October 22 – November 1, 2017 - Pilgrimage of Food & Faith in the Holy Land with Fr. Leo Patalinghug

Fr. Leo leads pilgrims to the Holy Land - the main destination for 3 of the worlds largest religions. 

October 22, Day 1 – DEPART USA on overnight flight to Tel Aviv

October 23, Day 2 – Arrival Tel Aviv (baggage claim) – TEL AVIV – TIBERIAS • Arrival in Tel Aviv • Meeting with our Christian Tour Guide and assistance with luggage and boarding the buses • Drive to a Druze village atop Mt. Carmel for lunch visit. • While in the ancient quarter, visit an Olive Press to learn about olive oil production. • Drive to Mt. Carmel for Mass at the Stella Maris Monastery and visit of Elijah’s Grotto • Check into your hotel in Tiberias • Open buffet dinner at hotel with private dining room reserved for the group • Overnight Tiberias – 3 nights (Welcome dinner at the hotel)

October 24, Day 3 - CANA – NAZARETH • Open buffet breakfast • 8:00 AM Start the day with Cana of Galilee – Renewal of Wedding Vows • Continue to Nazareth with visit of Mary’s Well then walk to the Church of the Annunciation, visiting the Church of St Joseph & Church of Annunciation and the Museum next door. • 11:30 AM Mass at the Basilica of the Annunciation • Lunch is included today • This afternoon visit a local Israeli-owned winery • In the afternoon we visit a typical Jewish village, Bethlehem of Galilee, famous for its spice production. Dinner is prepared for us in the village. • Overnight - Tiberias (B,L,Winery visit, D,)

October 25, Day 4 – MINISTRY AT THE SEA OF GALILEE • Open buffet breakfast • Depart for the Sea of Galilee • 9:00 AM Boat ride on Sea of Galilee • Tour Kibbutz Kinnert to learn about the way life is organized on a kibbutz and visit their famous shop with dates which are harvested on the kibbutz. Biblical Israel was called the land of Milk and Honey. Many scholars believe the honey was produced from dates. Have a sample of the date honey and perhaps buy a small jar to add to your roasted duck or turkey when you get back home. • 11:30 AM Mass at Mt. of Beatitudes • Lunch today is the traditional St. Peter Fish (tilapia) with a cooking demonstration in a local restaurant • Visit to Jesus’ home-town Capernaum Visit Tabgha, Church of the Multiplication • Dinner at the famous Magdalena restaurant • Overnight Tiberias (B,L, Special dinner,)

October 26, Day 5 – JERICHO – DEAD SEA • Open buffet breakfast • Check out of hotel and depart for Jericho • See Mt of Temptation • Visit a Bedouin village near Jericho to experience traditional Bedouin hospitality and enjoy an authentic meal. • Stop at the Baptismal site at the River Jordan • Visit the Dead Sea for a swim (BATHING SUITS ARE NEEDED) • Start our ascent to Jerusalem through the Judean Hills • En route, you will pass the Good Samaritan Inn • Enjoy our Genesis welcome • Check into your hotel • Welcome drink and reception on the rooftop terrace of the Notra Dame hotel • Buffet dinner at the hotel • Overnight Jerusalem 5 nights at the Notra Dame hotel (B,L,Welcome reception, D,)

October 27, Day 6 – BETHLEHEM – SHEPHERD FIELD – WINERY VISIT – Dinner with Chef Johnny (TBC) • Open buffet breakfast • Visit Bethany to see the home and the tomb of Lazarus • Depart for Bethlehem • 10:00AM Christmas Mass at Church of the Nativity (St Catherine) • Visit Manger Square and the Church of the Nativity • Visit Shepherd Field • Today’s lunch is at the famous Bedouin Tent restaurant in Bethlehem • As an expression of our solidarity with the local Christian population , we shop here to help support the local Christian families • Visit the Crimson Winery which is operated by Franciscan Monks and taste excellent wine of Bethlehem and perhaps take some home as a gift. • Return to Jerusalem – hotel to refresh • Tonight we meet Chef Johnny Goric, who together with Fr. Leo will cook for us an incredible dinner at the Legacy restaurant and talk about Chefs for Peace, an organization started by Jewish, Muslim and Christian chefs whose objective is peace through local cooperation, cooking and food sharing. • Overnight Jerusalem (B,L, Winery visit, Special dinner,)

October 28, Day 7 – VIA DOLOROSA – HOLY SEPULCHRE – WAILING WALL – TEMPLE MOUNT – POOLS OF BETHESDA – ST ANN’S CHURCH • Depart our hotel for Via Dolorosa • We begin our day early praying the Stations of the Cross along the Way of the Cross • Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre – Tomb • We stop for Kunafah at a sweet shop to see how the favorite sweet of the Holy land is ITINERARY Fr. Leo Patalinghug made and where the sweets are stored in the ruins of an ancient Byzantine entrance of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The group will learn how to bake cheese pies which are eaten here for breakfast. • Continue with a visit to the Wailing Wall and Temple Mount • Visit the Church of St Ann’s and Pool of Bethesda • 2:00 PM Lunch is in the Old City at a restaurant which will teach the group how to make falafel- have your pen ready to take the recipe of the Holy Land’s most famous dish back home. • Afternoon is on your own to explore the Old City or visit a local museum (Yad Vashem – the Holocaust Museum) • Tonight we visit the local Judean Hills to taste the cooking of a famous Jewish-Muslim husband and wife team Yakub and Michal, at their Majda restaurant. • Overnight Jerusalem (B,L,D,)

October 29, Day 8 – MT OF OLIVES – MT ZION • Open buffet breakfast • Start the day with a visit to Ascension Chapel then we drive by Bethpage from where Our Lord Jesus Christ started his Palm Sunday walk. • Our next stop is the Church of Pater Nostre where Jesus taught the Lord’s Prayer – today we can see the prayer in over 160 languages • Continue for a panoramic view from the Mt of Olives – seeing the eternal golden city – then a walk along Palm Sunday Road stopping at Dominus Flevit from where Jesus wept over the city. Walk along the Jewish cemetery with a view over the Eastern Gate – known as the Thrones of Judgment (Psalm 122) • Visit the Garden of Gethsemane and the Grotto of Gethsemane • 11:00 AM Mass at the Basilica of Agony • After Mass we visit the empty tomb of the Virgin at the Church of the Assumption • Lunch on your own in the Old City Jerusalem • Carry on to visit Caiaphas Palace at the church of St Peter in Gallicantu (Psalm 88) • On to visit the Upper Room • Visit of Dormition Abbey • Dinner is with Chef Moshe Basson of Chefs for Peace in his famous restaurant Eucalyptus located in the Artist Quarter • Overnight in Jerusalem (B,D,)

October 30, Day 9 – FOOD MARKETCOOKING DEMONSTRATION • Buffet breakfast is at the hotel • We meet with several of the chefs from Chefs for Peace who take us to the most famous food market in Israel, the Mahane Yehuda market where we purchase the ingredients we need for the afternoon cooking class. • We cook together with the Chefs for Peace who share with us their secrets of the new and traditional Middle Eastern cooking styles. This is a participatory experience and everyone will cook and share a meal together. Part of the experience is learning about the work of Chefs of Peace toward lasting peace in the land of the Bible. • Time at leisure to explore Jerusalem on your own. • Overnight Jerusalem (B,L,D,)

October 31, Day 10 – EIN KEREM – JAFFA- FAREWELL DINNER Buffet breakfast at the hotel • 10:00 AM Mass at the Church of Visitation followed by a visit to the Visitation Church, Mary’s Spring and Birthplace of St. John the Baptist • Lunch is included • Depart for Jaffa, the Mediterranean city with miles of white sand beaches. • Time at leisure for shopping and exploring • Time permitting, we stop at the Carmel market in Tel Aviv • Enjoy the farewell dinner in a local restaurant overlooking the beautiful seaside setting. • Depart for the airport at 7PM (B, L, Farewell Dinner) November 01, Day 11 – Arrival USA early in the morning
